When it comes to mobile satellite communications, Inmarsat is the world leader. Inmarsat offers a mature range of modern communications services to maritime, land-mobile, aeronautical and other users and maintains the most versatile and reliable geostationary mobile satellite constellation in the world. Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network service is a high-speed wireless data service with voice, accessible via a small portable satellite device. It will offer data rates up to 432 Kbps over shared channels.

The service will initially be available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, currently expected around the end of 2005. Service in the Americas will follow shortly after.
