Iridium is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mobile satellite phone system consisting of 66 orbiting satellites at an elevation of approximately 600 miles above the earth in polar orbits. The Iridium Satellite System is the only provider of truly global, mobile satellite voice and data solutions with complete coverage of the Earth (including oceans, airways and Polar regions). The constellation works through one down linking gateway located in Tempe, Az. USA.

The service is ideally suited for a variety of rural and industrial applications, covering a wide range of vertical segments which includes: construction, media, government, defense/military, EMS, marine, mining, forestry, oil and gas, aviation and so on... Iridium Service is available on a global basis! Coverage may not be available in North Korea, Poland, and Sri Lanka.
